Systems Administrator
The Embassy is hiring for a Systems Administrator to join our team! Reporting to the IT Manager, the Systems Administrator role is responsible for ensuring the server, network and storage infrastructure are maintained and stable. There will be an occasional need to help with Tier 3 help desk support.
This is a mixed role of server, storage and network support and requires a broad range of knowledge and is an opportunity to learn new technologies. The primary role is to provide full end to end support to local and remote employees as well as backend systems. The Systems Administrator will also work closely with other departments, including Pipeline, Supervisors, VFX artists and producers, to ensure that our technology is optimized to meet the unique demands of our industry.

Your Role:
- Remote access support for staff and contractors
- Project work (switch upgrading, installation of new software and/or equipment)
- Modify configurations, utilities, software default settings, etc. for switches, storage and servers
- Design, implementation, support, and automation of infrastructure
- Monitoring overall health of systems and responding anomalies
- Proactive maintenance of systems
- Investigate and recommend equipment and software purchases
- Investigating and resolving hardware issues that arise with remote and on site servers
- Investigating and resolving issues on network switches and storage devices.
- Document all technical processes and update the documentation as and when required.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years professional experience in a Linux environment (CentOS, Red Hat, Ubuntu)
- 2 years or more of experience in Microsoft Windows Server will be an added advantage
- Security minded and familiar with basic security concepts
- SAN and NFS storage knowledge (Isolon, NetApps, Qmulo)
- Experience with NFS, XFS, ZFS and CIFS file systems
- Experience with Linux internals
- Experience with virtualization (KVM or VMWare)
- Knowledge of configuration management (ie Ansible, Salt Stack, or Puppet)
- Strong knowledge of network concepts and ability to configure switches (VLAN, routing)
- Experience with firewalls (Fortigate, Cisco - an asset)
- Knowledge in Desktop/Workstation and Server hardware configuration
- Ability to troubleshoot and understand hardware/software logs
- Ability to create and maintain scripts in Bash or other scripting languages
- A strong understanding of Python will be an advantage but not essential.
- Extensive experience with hardware troubleshooting
- Experience with writing technical documentation
- Windows experience (an asset)
- Great oral and written communication skills
- MacOS knowledge and experience (an asset)
- Experience with tape backup and archiving (an asset)
Other:
- After-hours work and weekend work will be required occasionally.
- This role is on-site 100% of the time.
- Must have the ability to lift/carry up to 20kgs.

Salary Range: $34.00- $40.00 per hour.
This range denotes the minimum and maximum compensation limits for this role within the province of British Columbia, adhering to local legal requirements. It's essential to recognize that the salary range for this position may vary when compared to markets outside of British Columbia, with potential variations in both lower and higher figures. The base pay offered is contingent upon factors including internal equity assessments and elements such as the candidate's geographic location, job-related expertise, skills, experience, and other pertinent qualifications.
